Considered rare and highly sought-after, it’s twenty years since this precious metal was last mined in Wales. Pauline Smith visits the National Trust's Dolaucothi Gold Mines in Carmarthenshire and explores the history of mining in the Cothi Valley during the Roman and Victorian eras and lastly the 1930s. Further north, we hear how new explorations are being made in the Dolgellau gold belt to determine whether it would be economically viable to open up the St David's mine, once more and the company celebrating 30 years of using distinctive rose coloured Welsh gold in its jewellery.
