Yearning For The Light
A mediation in words and music on themes of conflict, loss, remembrance and hope, including music commissioned for recent BBC programmes about The Troubles.
A special concert of music and readings about conflict and its aftermath. John Toal introduces this live concert recording from the Ulster Hall in Belfast with soprano Ruby Hughes, Codetta choir and the Ulster Orchestra, conducted by David Brophy.
The concert includes several recent BBC music commissions from the soundtracks of Lost Lives and Spotlight on the Troubles: A Secret History. And it concludes with a new piece by Neil Martin, Richard Hill, Charlie Graham and Mark Gordon, Yearning for the Light – from which the concert takes its title.
The concert is a meditation on suffering and hopes for renewal. Its themes are both local and universal, immediate and timeless.
