Kate exacts her revenge and Freddie has a hard day.
Elizabeth and Lily are reeling from Hugh’s sudden resignation. Freddie admits to Lily that his shift as a Kitchen Porter was really tough. Ian gave him a real roasting before he’d even started. Lily tells Freddie how proud she is of him, getting a job outside of Lower Loxley is a real achievement.
Kate passes by Brookfield on her way to see Phoebe. She rounds on Ruth about her lack of support for the rewilding. Pip jumps in to defend Ruth, Kate doesn’t need to be nasty, and she doesn’t need Kate’s help. Ruth thanks Pip for standing up for her. The mood lightens between them, and they laugh about David’s leather jacket, which has just shown up on Bert’s scarecrow again. David must have had an attack of good taste.
Kate’s in a quandary about Jakob. He keeps ending their dates early so that Kate can get back to look after Peggy. She’d like him to be able to come home with her sometimes. Peggy says she can always take out her hearing aids. Peggy thinks Kate would be in less of a fix if she hadn’t misled Jakob in the first place. Later, Kate prepares for a night at Jakob’s. Kate needn’t worry about leaving her frail grandmother alone though, she’s organised a companion for her – someone Jakob met in the shop. Her name’s Joy Horville.
