Endings – whether of a day, a relationship or a lifetime – are the thread that runs through this beautiful programme of English choral music performed by the BBC Singers.
Poetry by Donne, Shelley, Campion and Rossetti is reimagined in evocative settings by Bridge, Vaughan Williams and centenary composer Hubert Parry, whose choral cycle Songs of Farewell is the powerful statement of a man nearing the end of his life, while Holst’s Nunc dimittis offers a night-time prayer.
Singer-songwriter Laura Mvula’s new commission is inspired by the Black Madonna in a Catalonian mountain monastery.
