Anger after Sinn Fein's Alex Maskey labels Northern Ireland a "putrid little statelet"

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has been criticised for describing Northern Ireland as a "putrid little statelet". Mr Maskey tweeted: "Unfortunately it took more than the CRA (Civil Rights Association) to secure rights in the putrid little statelet NI." The comments were posted in response to a tweet from SDLP leader Colm Eastwood commenting on the 100th anniversary of women's voting rights. Unionists have described Mr Maskey's remarks as offensive and claimed his comments appeared to "justify terrorism". Stephen got reaction from SDLP leader Colum Eastwood.

Also on the programme, dramatic footage has emerged of BBC journalist Kevin Magee being surrounded last night by a group of people. BBC Investigative Correspondent Mr Magee is working on a story of the activities of self styled paedophile hunter groups who many have criticised for their actions. Mr. Magee was lured to a location under false pretences and was then surrounded by a group of men shouting at him. When he got into a car to try to leave the scene, a man sat in front of it to try and stop the car driving off. The recording has been posted on social media. And to stress the point again Kevin Magee is a respected BBC journalist who is working on a story on the actions of these self styled paedophile hunters. And, the Belfast marathon may be 3 months away but there are already plans for next year which would move the event to a Sunday as well as introducing a new route. For the last 36 years the marathon has been traditionally held on the May Day bank holiday Monday. The proposal will be brought before Belfast City Council this week.
