Will has some bad luck, and Tony makes preparations.

At Bridge Farm Tony is keen to get on with clearing out the old calf shed. Pat can't understand why. Surely he deserves a break? Tony claims to need the exercise, but he and Helen are really preparing a surprise for Pat. Tony hopes they've done the right thing. Pat announces that she's going to start regularly volunteering at the Elms. That way she can make a real difference.

Will goes out early to prepare for the boxing day shoot, and is furious to find two young dogs running wild on Spitfire, one of the best drives. Worse, he discovers that the dogs belong to one of the guns, who is also a friend of Justin's. Will has to make an excuse to Brian, feeling that he cannot risk offending their guest. Noluthando has a brilliant time at the shoot, impressing some of the experienced guns. But Brian feels that the loss of Spitfire has really robbed them of a challenge. Will returns home with less than a hundred pounds in tips. He's lost out on the money he relies on to pay for Christmas. Nic tries to reassure him that he'll make it up with the New Year's Day shoot. Will worries that his job could be on the line if he doesn't.
