What is distracting Lilian? Alan prays for some community spirit.
Peggy arrives at the St Stephen's Remembrance service to discover Bert has lost his voice and cannot perform his reading. Although it's short notice, Alan asks if Peggy would be able to take Bert's place. Peggy tells Alan she would be honoured.
Following the service, Alan offers Peggy a lift. He shares his concerns about the solemn mood in the village currently. He tells Peggy about the speculation and rumours he's heard following the hit and run. Peggy agrees that recent events certainly haven't brought out the best in people.
Lilian plucks up the courage to confront Matt about his fraudulent activities. She arrives at Matt's room at Grey Gables to find his bags packed for South America. With his schemes exposed, Matt still claims he did it all for Lilian, and reminds her of just how tempted she was to leave Justin for him. Knowing the game is up, Matt begs Lilian not to call the police - he can't possibly go back to jail. Relenting slightly, Lilian gives him an hour's head start to leave Ambridge. Matt's departing declaration of love is met with a reminder that the clock's ticking. With the help of a little Dutch courage, Lilian makes her call.
