Over lunch at the Stables, Jill discovers Alistair and Shula are at odds over Alistair's request for Shula to advertise his vet practice to hunt members. Afterwards, to cheer Shula up, Alistair points out how well the Hunt Ball went. She was so busy he hardly saw her all night. Then Alistair upsets Shula by joking that nobody would blame her if she was the one who knocked Matt down. Later, Shula admits to Jill that things haven't been right between her and Alistair since Caroline died. Jill thinks they both need to remember why they love each other.

Justin makes it clear that he doesn't want Lilian to visit Matt. But Lilian goes to the hospital, and Matt persuades her to book him a room at Grey Gables. He wants to leave hospital immediately. On her return, Justin announces he's leaving for London. Lilian begs him to stay, but he can't bear to see the way she can't resist Matt. Bereft, Lilian helps Matt settle in to Grey Gables. He insists that nobody should know he's staying there. She warns him not to be pleased by the news that Justin has left Ambridge. Lilian implores Matt to return to hospital. Matt says he's fine, but Lilian is not convinced.
