Justin finds an ally, and Phoebe's head is turned.

Emma calls in on Justin to alert him to the growing opposition against the Bridge Farm housing development. She tells him it's more than nimbyism. Some think the affordable homes will attract undesirable people. Emma remarks that she and Ed are probably the only ones in favour - how else can they hope to get a step on the housing ladder? Justin encourages Emma to speak up at the Parish Council meeting. On her way out she admires the taupe curtains.

Out fruit picking, Phoebe is happy to be away from essay-writing. What Phoebe likes about Constantin, Lexi finds annoying. They discuss the fight that broke out at the fete and look ahead to the conciliatory barbecue. Everyone contributes items to the event, though Shula and her salads don't appear. Lexi thanks Ed for breaking up the fight on Sunday. She understands (but doesn't condone) that people can be hostile to outsiders.

Meanwhile, Emma reports her chat with Justin. Lily pipes up about the Bridge Farm plot being too small for 18 houses which only further riles Emma. Phoebe takes a bottle of wine and arranges for Lily to cover for her, before going off with Constantin.
