Shula takes a call from Oliver and is stunned when he says Caroline has died. She had an idyllic day in Italy and slipped away in her sleep. Oliver struggles to come to terms to relay the news when he doesn't quite believe it himself. He asks Shula to let people know in Ambridge.

Lilian turns up at Grey Gables with the puppy looking for Matt but he's not around. Lynda gets teary and passes the sad news on to Lynda. Seeing the pup reminds Lynda of Scruff, she gets even more teary and Lilian offers a hug. Lilian leaves a message on Matt's phone asking him to take the dog back, and informing him of Caroline's passing.

Shula breaks the news to Eddie and Clarrie. They arrange to go over to Will's to tell him - he was Caroline godson. Shula wishes she'd ignored her work and rung Caroline at the weekend, like she had intended. Eddie says they owe Caroline and Oliver everything. Will, Clarrie and Eddie think on what the Sterlings have done for them over the years. Clarrie's certain they have to cancel every B&B booking they have. Later, Shula talks to Oliver again and he asks her to plan a memorial service for Caroline in Ambridge. She would be proud to do it.
