Witches, Wizards, Magic and Spells

James and Oliver Phelps present an evening of marvellous music for muggles and magicians with the BBC Concert Orchestra and special guests.

James and Oliver Phelps - who played the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter films - present an evening of marvellous music for Muggles and Magicians.

Remember 1997? A year rich in culture. Leonardo DiCaprio was King of the World in the blockbuster movie Titanic, the Spice Girls were telling us to spice up our lives, and if you were a child in 1997, you were probably obsessed with your Tamagotchi - remember them? The BBC bid us say 'Eh Oh' to the Teletubbies, and in the literary world, a novel that had previously received countless rejections from publishers finally made its debut.

On 26 June 1997, Bloomsbury published the book in a cautious print run of just 500 copies - slightly under the 107 million current sales figures. The writer was JK Rowling, and the book was called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - the very first Harry Potter novel. The spell was cast - the series went on to spawn seven novels, eight films, four theme parks, a West End play and a host of video games. It remains the best-selling book series of all time.

Tonight, Radio 2 welcomes guest presenters James and Oliver Phelps, who starred as twin mischief makers Fred and George Weasley in the film adaptations of the Harry Potter stories.

The concert includes music by all four Potter film composers - Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, Alexandre Desplat and, of course, John Williams. The concert also includes other music inspired by magic and mystical creatures - The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Dukas); In the Hall of the Mountain King (Greig); Twilight (Desplat); Enchanted (Meneken) and The Firebird (Stravinsky). West End star Louise Dearman sings favourites from The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz and Wicked.

First broadcast in 2017.
