David stands his ground, and Emma struggles on.
Emma's snowed under with laundry; the next guests are arriving early and she's stepped in to lend a hand. Emma's fed up, but Ed points out they need the money. Eddie's torturing himself reading glowing reviews for Ambridge Hall. He spots they're offering birdwatching tours. Keen to follow suit, he quickly enlists the services of Jim Lloyd, and gets Ed to update their website. As Ed's deals with another below par lamb, gloomy Emma reflects it's always 'maybe' with their family's schemes.
David declares Carol's put her foot in it, making Jill cut down on her tea intake. Ruth reassures him it'll soon be forgotten. She's more worried about the milk yields, which aren't rising as they should be. They agree with Pip's suggestion to up the concentrate. Pip approaches her dad about a loan, to buy more cattle. David's surprised - surely she can use her own profits. He's keen for her to build her business independently, and so the answer is a gentle no. Pip's bitterly disappointed. She thought it was a formality as her dad had promised. Ruth points out that any further loan would be for a new enterprise, not a continuation of her current project. She probes Pip about the money she gave Toby. Pip reckons she won't get it back in time for this year. She doesn't know what she's going to do.
