Historical drama set during the American Civil War and based on the life of farmer and Confederate soldier Newton Knight, who led a rebellion against the Confederacy.
Working as a medic on the battlefield, Knight goes AWOL following personal tragedy and returns home. While the army refuses to let him go quietly and continues to take advantage of other farmers in the area, Knight is inspired to start an uprising comprised of fellow deserters, slaves and women.
