As part of the 2016 Edinburgh International Festival the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and their artist-in-association Matthias Pintscher pay tribute to composer-conductor Pierre Boulez who died earlier this year. Pintscher was a long-time friend and colleague of Boulez who was also a regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival. In this homage, the first movement of Boulez's sensualist song-cycle Pli Selon Pli and his intimate work Mémoriale bookend the concert which also features revolutionary 20th-century works Boulez championed throughout his career: Berg's tumultuous Three Orchestral Pieces, and Debussy's masterful tone poem La Mer.
