The world's best golfers will bid to make the cut and put themselves in contention for the famous Claret Jug. Among them is Britain's Colin Montgomerie, who was runner-up to Tiger Woods when the Open was last staged at St Andrews in 2005.
Graeme McDowell, the toast of British golf after his magnificent triumph at the US Open, will also hope to feature strongly over the weekend.
