Great Britain's Mo Farah took to the track to defend the 10,000m title he won so impressively in Moscow in 2013.

Farah's compatriots Jessica Ennis-Hill and Katarina Johnson-Thompson began their bid for glory on day one of the hepthalon, while the first gold medal of the championships was awarded in the men's marathon.
