Kellie Maloney

Boxing manager Frank Maloney took fighters from obscurity to stardom, including former world heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis. Then, in August 2014, Frank revealed to the world that he was transgender, was undergoing gender re-alignment surgery and had begun to live life as a woman called Kellie. Kellie joins Jane to talk about how she had always known she was a woman, and the impact of re-entering the world of promoting as a woman.

Women in Engineering - Tamsin Smith

How do we engage girls in engineering, and retain those already in the field? This week we’ve been speaking to women across the industry to raise the profile of women in engineering. Today Jane Garvey speaks to Tamsin Smith, a Marine Engineer who has written numerous blog posts about her experiences at sea.

Finding out about periods

Anyone unsure about how to insert a tampon can watch a vlog on their smartphone. And girls can monitor their menstrual cycle with a period tracker app. But how accurate is the information available online? Who should be giving advice about starting periods? How is it best for girls - and boys - to find out? And what products are most suitable for young teens?

Joni Mitchell - with Malka Marom

Joni Mitchell is one of the most celebrated singer-songwriters of her generation. Her confessional lyrics and haunting voice have earned her adoring fans, numerous awards and a career spanning five decades. Artists from Taylor Swift to Madonna have singled her out as their musical inspiration.

Broadcaster and singer Malka Marom has been an admirer and friend of Joni’s since she first stumbled across her when she was unsigned artist, singing to an empty café. Over the course of their friendship they recorded three candid interviews which now form the book ‘Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now’. Jane talks to Malka about Joni’s life, career and their special relationship.
