Museum of the Year

A special concert celebrating the six nominees for this year's Museum of the Year. The BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Nick Davies, will play music inspired by unique objects from each of the museums collections. Among them, a tsetse fly sent back from the Zambesi by Dr Livingstone; a walrus skull that inspired Lewis Carroll to write 'The Walrus and the Carpenter'; one of the clay poppies from the Tower of London's 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red'; and a tambourine signed by soldiers of the first World War who convalesced at the Georgian country house, Dunham Massey....
Among the pieces of music:- John Addison's theme for the Douglas Bader film 'Reach for the Sky'; Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance No 4'; Strauss' 'Voices of Spring'; Vaughan Williams 'Fantasia on Greensleeves'; Henry Walton's 'Crown Imperial'; and Jerry Goldsmith's stirring score for 'Star Trek The Motion Picture'.
