Episode 2 of 3

An account of the life of Jesus of Nazareth based on the Gospel of John. Jesus becomes a popular figure, if sometimes misunderstood by the crowds. Narrated by David Harewood.

An account of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus is attracting crowds with his teaching about the Kingdom of God and what must be done to achieve it. He becomes a popular figure, if sometimes misunderstood by the crowds. His miracles, such as the healing of a man born blind, give him a sense of authority, indicating he has power from God. However, the Jewish leadership see Jesus as undermining their authority, accuse him of being demon-possessed and dispute his teaching whenever possible. Jesus defends himself and his unique relationship with God. He is the Good Shepherd, not the religious leaders.

His teaching is true, not theirs. He is on a collision course with the Jewish opposition, but not before he shows them and people close to him the ultimate sign of his power, bringing his friend Lazarus back from the dead. Events move forward quickly as the Jewish authorities convene a meeting to plot his downfall. Jesus bides his time and keeps a low profile in order to complete his work. He knows he will die at the hands of his enemies, but not yet.
