Kate is out of sorts, and Ruth and Pip reflect.
It's Mother's Day but Kate's acting more like the child, complaining that Jennifer's meal includes meat (even though Kate's not the only guest). Jennifer cooks for Kate, Hayley and Phoebe. Kate plays the 'natural mother' card, remembering giving birth to Phoebe at Glastonbury.
When Hayley arrives, Phoebe makes huge fuss of her. She gives her a card to "the best mother in the world". Fed up Kate makes things awkward, asking Hayley about her divorce. Phoebe turns it back round to Kate and Lucas before Abbie, Phoebe and Hayley go to see Roy.
Josh and Pip are cooking for Ruth. It's Ben's and Eddie's birthdays too. Emma's doing a picnic for the Grundys. Pip and Ruth feel for poor bereaved Bert. Ruth's worried about her own mum, who's being stoic on her own in Prudhoe.
Pip now grudgingly understands David's decision to stay, realizing that Hadley Haugh might not have been perfect. David and Ruth will be fighting Route B as hard as ever.
Kenton is home from his holiday tomorrow. David's not looking forward to telling him about his decision to stay in Ambridge.
