The White Countess
Merchant-Ivory period drama about the relationship between a blind former diplomat and the Russian countess who saves him from a violent attack on the streets of 1930s Shanghai.
Shanghai 1937. Sofia Belinkskya is an exiled countess who works in a nightclub to support her dead husband's aristocratic family and her daughter. After she meets Todd Jackson, a former US diplomat, who has been blinded in a recent accident, and has plans to open his own establishment he offers her a job.
