Euan investigates the issue of Dyslexia in the farming industry. One in ten of the general population is affected by the condition that affects reading and writing. But Scotland’s Rural College has revealed that a quarter of its students have the condition. Fiona Dickinson from Dyslexia Scotland explains that help is available. Sarah tries her hand at metal detecting under the supervision of Jim Ingram an Amateur metal detectorist. Last year Jim uncovered a rare gold ring which he sent to the Treasure Trove Unit in Edinburgh to be assessed. If it is deemed to be of historical value it will be displayed in a Museum and Jim will receive a “finders fee” based on the valuation of the ring.

It’s believed that more than a quarter of Scottish households live in fuel poverty – that means that more than 10% of income goes on heating bills. There’s a plethora of schemes offering incentives to householders keen to stop their hard earned cash disappearing up the chimney. But with costs of up to £20,000 Dougie investigates how affordable sustainable heating systems actually are.

This week the annual RSPB Nature of Scotland Awards are presented in Edinburgh. The event celebrates the individuals and groups across the country working to protect our native Flora and Fauna. Euan is on the judging panel and reveals who has won the prestigious “Species Champion” Award.
