Fake Lawyers

The One Show reported on the growing number of people pretending to be solicitors and barristers in the UK. To make sure the barrister you’re instructing is qualified and competent, ask if they are regulated by the Bar Standards Board and registered on the Barristers’ Register. Solicitors are regulated by The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and registered on The Law Society’s ‘Find A Solicitor’ List.

As an extra safety measure when buying or selling your home you can check your solicitor is accredited by the Conveyancing Quality Scheme. The Law Society has an online database where you can search by postcode for a conveyancing firm that has met and maintains their standards and practices.
