The bad news is only one British man is tipped to win an individual medal at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The good news is Team GB is predicted to bring back its highest medal tally ever for a winter games because of our women medal contenders. Eleanor Oldroyd explores the female names to look out for.
Women and Quizzes
After a run of fifteen years ITV’s ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ broadcast its last show this week. Back in 2000, it was a woman, Judith Keppel , who became the show’s first seven figure jackpot winner. She went on to make a career out of her success becoming a resident panellist on BBC2’s ‘Eggheads’ but she has said she doubts she would ever have entered Millionaire at all if she had still been a married woman. Why are women such a small minority in the world of competitive quizzing and are single women more likely to succeed? Jenni talks to Judith and to quiz programme producer Paul Bajoria.

Women who have lost their partner to drug addiction
This week the world of film and theatre has been rocked by news of the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Police suspect the actor died of an overdose; he was discovered with a hypodermic syringe in his arm and bags of heroin in his Manhattan apartment. Hoffman lived through a familiar pattern of experimentation, addiction, rehab, abstinence, relapse… He leaves behind three children. Jenni is joined by Elizabeth Burton-Phillips, founder of Drug Fam which is a support group for families of drug addicts, and by Gail, who spent 20 years with a partner who was addicted to heroin.

Today the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt meets with the Alzheimers Society to hold a public meeting about dementia.Dementia can be devastating, and for those family members caring for someone who has it, a lonely experience. Jenni is joined by writer, Leah Borromeo , who this year decided to Tweet about her mother’s dementia. But it’s not just any Twitter feed, it’s called @Dementia_Days and is written from the perspective of sufferer and their nearest and dearest.
