Reviews of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Claudia: I thought it was tremendous. That’s probably because I’m not a purist. I saw the first one and I had to go twice because I had two naps, and when I woke up from my second nap they were still washing up and they had broken into song! They were never leaving the Shire! And in this one they go down barrels, and it’s just propelling. I like Evangeline lily and I like the love story.
Danny: This is an altogether better kind of Hobbit. There is a lack of half-hour scenes of washing up. Instead you have this full-blooded action romp. As a spectacle it is spectacular. At last there is a sense of energy and momentum.
Catherine: I’m a big Tolkien nerd, I think there will be a lot of people who are with me in feeling that this is really Peter Jackson’s film and not Tolkien’s film. This isn’t epic and brilliant, this is just a fun trip out for the kids.
Reviews of All is Lost- Claudia, Danny and Catherine's Film of the Week

Claudia: It’s a tense watch. We all love it.
Danny: I’m not a man who is frequently left speechless but I was by this film. I think it’s phenomenal. The last two or three minutes are genuinely the most unforgettable I’ve seen on any kind of screen. I’m a very big fan. This is Redford’s movie.
Catherine: I love this film. I wasn’t necessarily expecting to. You hear it’s a film with no dialogue, and it’s going to be “compelling” and you think, “actually I’m going to be bored but it’s well made,” but no, it’s actually edge-of-your-seat stuff. An incredible performance from Robert Redford.
Reviews of Fill The Void

Claudia: It was incredibly claustrophobic to watch, in the same way as All is Lost.
Danny: I think you expect Fill The Void to be a slightly different movie. You have this eighteen year old girl in a very devout community. We’ve seen a million coming of age movies where the girl would rebel and freak out and run away and become Lady Gaga. It’s not an exposé, it’s not propaganda: it’s somewhere in between. It’s a very absorbing movie.
Catherine: it’s a technically very accomplished film. I think she has a real way with framing a shot, she’s coaxed incredible performances from her actors. I’d like to see her next film not about Orthodox Judaism. As interesting as it is I feel like she is so within that world, it would be nice to see her talent brought to bear on something completely outside of it.
