Mark Chapman presents highlights from the day's Premier League matches, with Manchester City playing Tottenham and Cardiff City hosting Manchester United.

Manchester City and Tottenham were the Premier League's two biggest spenders this summer, shelling out in the region of £200m to strengthen their squads. The signings of Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas, Fernandinho and Stevan Jovetic underlined City's intention to reclaim the title they won in 2011-12. Spurs, meanwhile, purchased Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado in order to compensate for the loss of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

Manchester United are the reigning Premier League champions, but the Red Devils are looking to recover from a slow start to the season under manager David Moyes. They can expect a difficult test away to Cardiff, who have already beaten Manchester City on home turf this season.
