Pressure is growing on the Chancellor George Osbourne to scrap the 50p tax rate for people earning over £150,000. Influential economists say it punishes entrepreneurs.
Twenty influential economists have signed a letter to the FT arguing the 50p income tax rate punishes entrepreneurs and is doing lasting damage to the economy. It comes as Chancellor George Osborne says short-term hopes for the economy have been revised down in recent weeks. Aasmah Mir interviews Professor Patrick Minford from Cardiff Business School one of those who signed the letter.
