Knutas on Britain
Pipe organs, spas and hound trailing. Eclectic reflections on Brits by Finnish tango-expert and reporter John Knutas. From 2004.
Random musings from Finnish tango expert John Knutas on a trip to Britain.
An outsiders view of British eccentricity from organ playing to portable saunas to dog trailing.
John visits Blackpool to explore the Tower Ballroom, dancing and organ playing, while a local clairvoyant tells him he has no future in radio.
He takes in Britain’s largest spa shop in the affluent area of Knutsford and heads to Cumbria to discover more about hound trailing.
Then he explores urban horse riding back in London, reflecting on his trip to Britain, saying British eccentricity is an art form, a refreshing fact for a reserved Scandinavian.
Producers: John Knutas & Jennie Walmsley
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in January 2004.
