Frank Higgins, the former assistant research assistant at Stirling University, meanders through another day with his wife Jo and his best mate Doug.

Frank investigates the possibility of becoming a tour guide up at the castle but he's worried that the uniform is too itchy and that he might not be allowed to wear a hat.

Jo is troubled by a recurring dream in which Frank seems to be conducting an affair. Doug has fallen for a girl he believes to be Irish, even though he hasn't spoken to her yet.
