Living in the shadow of the volcano

After the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull in April the effects were felt far and wide throughout Europe, but what was it like for those living locally during the eruption? In this farming landscape, how did they protect their animals, and what lasting impact has there been? Eòrpa visited Iceland six months on to see how they are dealing with what happened, and to ask about the dangers of the neighbouring volcano, Katla, should it erupt.

Submarine wreck in Norway

The waters around Norway have been the livelihood of many and made the fortune of a few over the centuries. Now for the inhabitants of Fedje, a small island on Norway's south-west coast, a threat to their livelihood lies beneath the waves. The wreck of U864, a German U-boat from the Second World War, is leaking toxic mercury into the aquatic system, and there are fears that the pollution could increase.
