Heather takes the first step in her new life, Glenda finds a way to make the working day a little bit more interesting and Alfie has a surprise in store for Kat.

The pressure’s on Alfie to prove himself to Kat. He seeks out Phil, Max and Jane for work, but hits a brick wall. Charlie advises Alfie to give up on Kat, but Alfie remains undeterred. With eight hours left to fulfil his promise, Alfie assures Kat he has everything under control and will sort their future out. Kat’s heart sinks when she realises that Alfie’s taken her £20k. Alfie later returns and blindfolds her to reveal a surprise. Leading her out onto the Square, he removes the blindfold and reveals that he’s bought the Vic. Staring at the burnt-out ruin, a furious Kat punches him.

Darren guiltily informs Max that Vanessa and Harry are coming to the Square for dinner with him and Jodie, but Max feigns indifference. The lunch with Jodie’s parents is a tense affair with Vanessa a shadow of her usual self around Harry. On Darren’s request, Stacey arrives with wine to keep Max company.

Glenda begins her trial at the bookies and receives a hostile reception from Carol, who’s unimpressed by Glenda’s flirtation with the punters. Bianca suggests Carol take a leaf out of Glenda’s book and call Lewis. With Carol out of the bookies, Glenda takes up Patrick’s suggestion of turning the shop into a drinking den. Her eyes light up on seeing Leon and she flirts outrageously. Carol returns and is shocked to find the shop full of boozing punters, but is silenced on seeing the bulging till. She listens on in disbelief as Glenda arranges to meet Leon later.

Unable to afford the rent alone at Minty’s flat, Heather fears having to leave the Square. Dot suggests Ethel’s old flat. Heather considers the money Alfie gave her, unsure of whether to use it. Heather decides to use it and go for Ethel’s flat.
