Despite the danger, there's been an increasing number of youngsters joining the British Army in Scotland. John Beattie goes behind the figures to find out why people sign up.

Despite the rising risk of death or horrific injury in Afghanistan, there's been a marked increase in the number of young men and women joining the British army in Scotland recently.

John Beattie, who seriously considered an army career while still at school met some of those who are about to, or have already, signed on the dotted line to ask just why, in the face of such potential danger they would risk their lives to be a soldier.
