Vatel

A prince invites King Louis XIV to his country chateau for a three-day feast. The lavish festivities are capably overseen by the prince's steward Vatel (Gerard Depardieu).

Desperate to impress King Louis XIV, a prince invites him to his palace hoping for a commission to the military. The lavish festivities are capably overseen by the prince's steward Vatel, but as the prince continues to ask more and more of Vatel, the steward finds himself attracted to the prince's mistress Anna de Monatausier. Under the scrutiny and stress of the public functions, can their romance blossom?
