Alistair is given cause for optimism.

Alistair is grateful when Shula takes Jim to the fracture clinic. Both Shula and Alistair are hopeful that their ordeal with Jim will soon be over - especially when Jim arrives and insists they leave for their appointment now: he insists on being punctual. Later, as Alistair treats a cow at Brookfield, he tells Ruth that he's optimistic that Jim will return home soon; a sentiment Ruth hears again from Shula in the shop.

Robert and Jason continue to be at loggerheads, with much discussion about their differing political and social views, and a lot of criticism of Robert's work from Jason. Later, Robert borrows the keys to the village hall from Shula, with a plan to return to work later in the evening.

Alistair is pleased to see that Jim has a new, light plaster and can now bend his knee after his visit to the clinic. He and Shula cross their fingers in the hope that the Stables will soon be a quiet place once again...
