Sue Townsend - The Diary of Nigel Mole, aged 13 3/4
4 Extra Debut. The first incarnation of Sue Townsend's misunderstood schoolboy Nigel, before he became Adrian. With Nicholas Barnes. From January 1982.
The first incarnation of Sue Townsend's misunderstood schoolboy originally named Nigel - before he became Adrian. With Nicholas Barnes as the Diarist.
On the first day of the New Year, Nigel Mole begins to keep a diary for the first time. But it will be no ordinary diary. Mole is no ordinary child - misunderstood schoolboy, undernourished son, unappreciated intellectual, unrecognised poet, rejected helper of the old, sometime friend of punk rocker Adrian and spurned wooer of Pandora.
Now he'll become the detached observer and detailed recordist of the customs and carry-ons of the adult world around him.
Scripted by Sue Townsend. Music by Pip Greasley. Directed by John Tydeman.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Thirty Minute Theatre in 1982.
