Emmy-nominated drama about an army officer, Major Kendall Laird, who is assigned to investigate the mysterious death of a black Vietnam War hero, and to accompany his body home to the Deep South of the 1970s.
Laird's attempts to secure the soldier's burial in a traditionally all-white cemetery run into military bureaucracy, racial prejudice and apathy among the Georgia townsfolk.
