A bingo caller in a seedy Liverpool nightclub envisages himself as a tough private eye, and places an advertisement seeking detective work. To his surprise he receives an answer, and despite the pleas of his family, starts pursuing clues doggedly. As he struggles to fulfil the hard-bitten image, the plot thickens. A surreal and witty spoof of the film noir genre starring the cream of British thespian talent.
