Roy finds an unwelcome guest at Grey Gables.

Roy tells Alice how pleased they are with her work as a chambermaid, and offers her casual work during the holidays when she's at university. Alice is surprised and pleased. She tells Roy she's found a very strange magazine under one of the beds - Herpetology Now. They realise it was the room recently vacated by Mr Pettifer, and Alice thinks she should have reported it in case he could be traced through a subscription or something. But Roy is strangely distracted. Later, Alice is surprised to find him in a cupboard, but he claims he's just doing a spot check.

Things are still at rock bottom between Debbie and Brian. She is very dismissive of him, and defends Adam. Jennifer thinks she sees a ray of hope when Brian reports this to her, but Brian says Debbie was terribly critical of him. Jennifer thinks that if one of the consequences of bringing Ruairi to Home Farm has been Adam and Debbie getting closer again, then they should be grateful.
