Alice refuses to play ball.

Robert is restoring the garden after damage done by fly tippers. Lynda's pleased that the article sent to Borsetshire Life in the name of Dylan Nells has been acknowledged, which proves her suspicions that 'Lynda Snell' was being blacklisted. Robert breaks the bad news that their B&B guests are leaving early, Lynda is disappointed. Robert reassures her; their dog had pups early and they needed to be home. They had written complimentary things in the visitors' book, saying they would recommend their friends and that Lynda had inspired Mrs Horrocks to take up writing again.

Ruairi's new room is nearly finished. Jennifer's had it decorated blue and ordered a bed like the one Ruairi had in Germany. Alice is upset there isn't a bigger family celebration for Adam's 40th; she blames Brian. Adam says he won't defend Brian but Alice should give Jennifer a break and be supportive. Brian asks Alice to help buy some things for Ruairi's room, but she refuses, even after Brian offers to buy her something. Alice is aggressive about his relationship with Siobhan and his betrayal of Jennifer and herself. She can't stop Ruairi coming, but she's not going to welcome him.
