Drama series about upper-crust DI Thomas Lynley and working class DS Barbara Havers. With Lynley still on suspension, Havers is teamed up with the plain speaking and heavily pregnant DI Knight and sent to Kent to investigate the drowning of the free-spirited and beautiful Edie Covington. On discovering Edie was murdered after a rendezvous with her lover, Knight is confident her jealous and possessive ex-partner must be the culprit. Much to Knight's annoyance, an unconvinced Havers enlists the help of Lynley to investigate other possibilities. Whilst attempting to rebuild his relationship with estranged wife Helen, Lynley delves into the case and discovers that a local land dispute and Edie's treatment at mysterious clinic, The Trust, could reveal other suspects.
