When a 300-year-old tomb in the city centre is raided by vandals it's the council who picks up the pieces - literally. Once the coffin of Sir George MacKenzie is rebuilt, the delicate task of re-interring his dismembered head can begin.

Across town, Ann Grannum and Freddy Patterson have to search the belongings of a man who has died with no known next of kin. Their task is to find out who is going to pay for the funeral.
