Deloris Van Cartier, now a successful entertainer, is persuaded to become Sister Mary Clarence again in order to take up a music-teaching post at an inner-city school. Discouraged by the initial setbacks, she dumps her plans to quit the post when she learns that the school is about to be closed. Instead, she will take up the challenge of turning the disaffected pupils into a top notch gospel choir.
