A remake of the 1956 classic McCarthy-era sci-fi shocker. Matthew Bennell, a San Francisco public-health inspector, uncovers a terrifying conspiracy to replace humans with outer-space pods who take human form. Widespread public indifference leaves Bennell and his assistant as the only ones holding out against takeover by the `pod people'.
