Wartime romance set in a Chinese village hospital which is under constant attack by Japanese forces. When Dr Thompson returns from the United States with his new wife, his devoted assistant tries to accept her. However, his jealous wife's behaviour exacerbates the perilous situation. Based on the novel by Pearl Buck.
