Jennifer puts on a brave face.

Josh thinks Ben's idea for the May Day race is stupid - his idea of Addams Family costumes is much better than The Simpsons. But Pip decides they're going as cows - and she'll be the milkmaid! Ruth knows this means she'll be making the costumes.

Alice is back from Hungary and Jennifer insists she mustn't sense an atmosphere. Alice's exams are looming and nothing can be allowed to affect her revision. Alice appears laid back at the thought of her exams and tells Jennifer to chill - she'll start tomorrow. But when Shula asks Alice to enter the May Day Race, Alice admits she can't take any more time out - the exam pressure is starting.

Brian remarks on Alice's good spirit. Jennifer wants to keep it that way but the atmosphere remains tense all day. It's no consolation to Jennifer when Brian finally admits to being worried about Siobhan. She reminds him how she feels and tells him to stop this emotional blackmail. Brian insists he's trying to behave properly but Jennifer just tells him to try harder. Alice needs calm to revise, and he needs to concentrate on the child he has got.
