Shula visits Brookfield with a present for Ben's birthday and updates Ruth on the latest plans for the churchyard repairs. David has to leave the party to go to nets but promises to meet up with them later in the pub.

At Edgbaston, Sid is infuriating Alistair by chipping in with how he thinks things should be done. Eventually, much to Alistair's relief, he goes off to talk to someone he recognises. He returns with the news that he's possibly secured them some extra training with an ex-Borsetshire fast bowler.

Shula's pleased with bookings for tables for the sale and auction. Alistair assures her that with the prospect of training from a professional the cricket should be worth watching this season.

Eddie's hatched a plan to smuggle some beer into Joe's lean-to but Joe's worried about getting caught out by Clarrie, especially as she's so proud of the way Eddie seems content not to go to the pub for his birthday. When the perfect opportunity arises later to bring in the beer Joe backs out, opting for a nice cup of cocoa instead. Exasperated Eddie pledges to go to tomorrow night's wine tasting.
