Jennifer puts Brian out of pocket.

Jennifer's horrified that Alice has taken a waitressing job without consulting her. She's worried that it will compromise her studies. Brian too thinks it's a bad idea. Her exams should be her priority. But Alice won't budge. She says she'll be able to earn a lot of money and be independent. Jennifer suggests they top up her allowance instead, and Alice eventually agrees. Brian can't help feeling he's been the victim of emotional blackmail.

Ruth's disappointed that David's spending another evening with the tractor. She tries again to talk to him about half term but they are interrupted by Brian's arrival. David refuses Brian's offer to get Adam to lend a hand with the tractor. Brian says it's probably just as well. Adam's got more than enough to do anyway.

Ruth tells Usha she's starting to panic a bit about taking over the herd next week. Usha broaches the subject of David. Ruth admits it's wearing her down, but Usha says it might just be that he needs space. Perhaps Ruth should think about doing something special for Valentine's Day. Ruth doubts it - at the moment David can't seem to spend more than five minutes with her.
