How we flew responsibly and kept our challenges fair

The iconic plane
Prized Apart Airways is made up of one beautiful vintage propeller plane, our 1940s Beechcraft Model 18. This little lady has appeared on numerous small screen productions and even graced the silver screen on the first Captain America film. The Model 18 was mainly used as a utility and small passenger plane by the US Army in World War Two as well as a training vehicle for USAF bomber pilots. Although 9000 were originally built, our Prized Apart plane is one of a handful that still fly in this country.
Each week, because of environmental considerations, the bottom three Prized Apart adventurers were flown back by commercial air transport to London the day before the studio record. Our picturesque Model 18 was on hand to hold them safely at the hangar doors in time for the show.
The challenges
Each week the Survival Challenges and Team Tasks tested a varied range of skills and disciplines.
All of the Team Tasks and Survival Challenges throughout Prized Apart were made as balanced as possible, so that no one adventurer had an unfair advantage over another. The adventurers gave us their height, weight and vital statistics prior to departing for Morocco. All tasks and challenges were re-set for each adventurer’s attempt, depending on all these measurements.
During all Team Tasks any items which the teams had to collect were always placed the same distance away from each team. All distances involved were always measured by a reliable and accurate GPS tracker and all tasks and challenges were rigorously tested by both the production and safety teams.
During the Survival Challenges, the adventurers were kept apart so they couldn’t watch one another’s attempts.
All Survival Challenges were adjudicated by dedicated members of the production team and where applicable, cameras recorded stopwatches and were directly focused on filming the individual attempts.
