Terms and Conditions
These terms were updated 26 November 2025.

The promoter of the competition is the BBC. Please listen carefully for specific details of your BBC radio station competition as this may broadcast as a simulcast across multiple stations.

Eligibility

1. Answer Me This on the Radio is a quiz open to all residents (over 18 years of age) of the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, except BBC Group employees, their close relatives and anyone connected with the quiz. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be required. The BBC reserves the right to disqualify any contestant or winner who breaches these rules.

How to Enter

2. Answer Me This will be run during Vinny and Cate on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle(except when editorial requirements lead to a change in schedule or a change in programme content). Although we plan to run a daily quiz, this will not always be via the method described in these terms nor with an entrant from this competition.

3. To be in with a chance of playing the quiz, listeners need to get in touch with us, using one of the methods outlined below and please include your name, contact number and explain why you want to take part.
* Email - [email protected] Please include the word “Quiz” in the subject line
* WhatsApp – 0 30 30 80 55 55 – start your message with the keyword ‘PRIZE’

*Telephone - 0 30 30 80 55 55 – lines will only be open during the show, as announced on air, standard geographic charges apply.

4. The Vinny & Cate production team will review eligible entries and shortlist contestants based on their explanation of why they want to play; this is an editorial decision and not all contestants will be shortlisted.

5. Qualifying stage:
5.1. Following the shortlisting stage outlined above, selected contestants called back will be asked about their general knowledge, interests, and hobbies.
5.2. Contestants may be asked additional questions about their news, sport and trivia knowledge and will be selected on how lively and interesting they will sound on air and how recently they have appeared on Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle.

6. All contestants put through to play on-air must supply their name, postal address, and a daytime contact telephone number.

7. We will only accept one entry per person by either entry method listed above. Once an entry has been submitted, it may be selected for shortlisting any time within 28 days of entry. Subsequent entries by the same person within 28 days will be disregarded. If an entrant does not hear from us or we have not been able to get in touch with them after reasonable attempts, the entrant has been unsuccessful in reaching the qualifying stage and may try again after 28 days.

8. One contestant will be chosen to take part in Answer Me This each day that the quiz is played with a contestant from the shortlist, except for the very first quiz in which two will be chosen or unless the previous winner cannot compete. The contestant will be told which day they will be taking part in the quiz and each quiz will be broadcast live. If a selected contestant is unavailable at the time the quiz is due to be broadcast, their participation will end and another contestant will be selected to take part in the quiz. All entries will only be kept for 28 days. If an entrant has not been successful in becoming an on-air contestant at the qualifying stage, they can apply again after 28 days from entering.

On-Air Quiz

9. The selected contestants for the day will answer a series of quick-fire questions and will be awarded a score based on the number of correct answers they achieved out of 10.

10. The winner is the contestant who has the most correct answers and will be announced at the end of each quiz. In the event of a tie in the number of questions answered correctly across the segment, the winner will be decided by a pre-answered numerical tie-breaker question, closest number wins.
