Unleash your creativity in Liverpool

It’s the city that gave us Beryl Bainbridge, Tom Baker and The Beatles. Liverpool is bursting with creativity and 10 years since it was the European capital of culture, it again underlines its artistic credentials by staging a host of free events in the name of Get Creative Day on Saturday 2 April 2016.

From self-sewing carnival costumes to lessons in stand-up comedy there's nothing you can't try your hand at and it's all free.

Learn how to be a stand up comic
Laughter is the best medicine! Well Funny workshops are delivered by a professional comedian and focuses on how we can use humour to feel happier and healthier.
Brass Band Taster Session for Younger Musicians
Open Rehearsal / Taster Session with Allerton Brass – informative taster session for musicians learning Brass Instruments to take part in and experience a real band rehearsal and live Brass music.
Story-time sessions
Teaming up with Liverpool ONE social reading project The Reader will host free story-time sessions for young children and their families at Liverpool ONE’s Reading Trees on Paradise Street, in the heart of the city centre.
Film & TV Acting Workshop
This taster TV & Film acting workshop is run by UK & LA Casting Director Kerrie Mailey and Actor Phil Perez. Learn audition technique, improvisation & script work.
Samba dance class and carnival costume making
A chance to take part in free taster sessions to learn Brazilian samba dance and also see how carnival costumes are made.
Jam with The Farm...
Free music taster session run by The Farm's Peter Hooton and Steve Grimes. Try guitar, drums and keyboards and learn how to break into the music industry.
Creative taster sessions
Free taster sessions are designed to help you to become more creative; learn new skills, increase your sense of well-being and meet new people. Sessions include drama and dressmaking.
Digital Storytelling
Active storytelling in an Immersive PopUp Space. Come hear of and help set free Dragons, Green Knights & maybe Minotaurs. After watching classic stories enhanced with digital content, bring your own tablet or phone and Video Editing App.
Sun Photography
Create a unique sun photograph by placing any object on light sensitive paper and exposing in the sun, before rinsing with water to reveal a brilliant blue print! Rachel Brewster from Little Vintage Photography will help you experiment with one of the earliest traditional 'photographic' processes, also known as ‘photograms’ and ‘cyanotypes’.
Impropriety Improvisation Workshop
Have you ever wanted to make things up from your brain? With Impropriety you can. Join them in a taster workshop to discover magic that you didn't know was there!
Do Something! Saturday: Star Lab
A family-friendly activity session exploring stars and galaxies whilst doing real research, plus a Minecraft-based workshop exploring the size and scale of the Solar System
Writing Workshops: Preparing for Pulp Idol
Join author John Donoghue (Death's Head Chess Club) for a creative session designed to help you develop your writing, your novel, and get you and your first chapter in tip-top shape for the Pulp Idol Novel Writing Competition.
Make a mini robot with Mike Badger
Local artist Mike Badger will teach participants how to make a small robot from recycled materials. Drop in and try your hand at creating your own unique piece of craft.
Families Get Creative at Tate Liverpool
Make your own Matisse cut out, explore art in the gallery using special Rocket Back Packs and spend time in the Family Room having lots of interactive fun.

Up for Arts are hosting a drop-in event between 11am – 1pm on Get Creative Day, Saturday 2nd April, at BBC Radio Merseyside promoting the work of Cinema for All, as they celebrate their 70th anniversary.

The Get Creative campaign has been running for just over one year and is the biggest ever joint campaign by the BBC and the UK’s Cultural Organisations. Get Creative Day on Saturday 2nd April celebrates the country's abundant creativity with a nationwide day of free access to creative events across the country. Music taster sessions, origami, pottery, acting workshops and much more. From Liverpool to Northern Ireland and a whole weekend of creativity in Wales there's every reason to get yourself out there on Get Creative Day and try something new.
